Green Schools Recognition Program

The Green Schools Recognition Program (GSRP) is a showcase for partnership. In collaboration with the Palm Beach County School District, GSRP began as an initiative of FAU Pine Jog and the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The purpose of GSRP is to recognize and encourage schools to green their operations and curriculum. FAU Pine Jog provides professional development and support for participating schools. Pine Jog also coordinates the application and judging process and facilitates the annual state-wide Learn Green Conference.

“The Green Schools Recognition Program has been a gift to me! Being the Green Team Leader at Grassy Waters has allowed me to help so many children develop their character of being environmentally conscious, responsible, and empathetic people. Green Schools has provided a platform to build kids to become truly great, green people!”

-Cassandra Kenski, Grassy Waters Elementary (2015 Top Green School)

In addition to a strong collaboration with the school system, GSRP has engaged more than15 businesses and non-profit organizations that assist in funding the program. Now in its eighth year, GSRP continues to expand and the model has been replicated in several Florida counties as well as other regions of the nation. This year GSRP served 79 schools and it is estimated that this number will grow to more than 85 in the coming year. A recent development in the program was the addition of Green Ambassadors. Green Ambassadors serve as green coaches that work to recruit and train schools not yet participating in the program.
