Pine Jog Partners with FPL to Launch EnergyWhiz Competition

Wednesday, Sep 19, 2018

EnergyWhiz, created by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) in 1999, is a forum for students to demonstrate their environmental science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (E-STEM) capabilities through project-based learning activities that are focused on the use of renewable energy. Each project-based learning activity builds student confidence and knowledge. Students will showcase their projects, receive feedback from energy experts, and demonstrate important collaboration skills.

FAU Pine Jog Environmental Education Center will be hosting the first ever South Florida  EnergyWhiz  Expo on February 16, 2019. This expo will serve as a precursor for the statewide  EnergyWhiz  event to be held on May 4, 2019 at FSEC in Cocoa, Florida. The two competitions being held this year are the Junior Solar Sprint and the Solar Energy Cook-off for teams in grades 3-8. Both competitions will be judged on design and performance. The entry fee per team is $25. Special thanks to our program sponsor Florida Power & Light for funding the start-up funds for this program.
